A restaurant is only as good as its chefs and, given Birmingham’s status as the UK’s spiritual home of Indian food, we’re glad to have Sunil Kumar to head up the superb team in our kitchen.
Sunil started his career as a sous chef in a high-end Indian restaurant in a five star hotel in Luneberg, Germany. In 2006, he moved to Dubai, where he was instrumental in opening the first three Asha’s restaurants around the world, including Birmingham, where he then worked as a sous chef.
In 2013, Sunil was promoted to head chef and today, with the help of his dedicated team, manages a kitchen that produces internationally acclaimed, award-winning Indian cuisine.
His appreciation of not only the finer culinary details but also the sense of theatre engendered by our show-stopping signature dishes makes him a perfect fit for our philosophy of food at Asha’s: “I’m proud to be head chef in a kitchen where the whole team are continually looking to raise their game – to set new standards, not only in the quality, flavour and presentation of our food, but also in the service, the way we look after our customers… indeed, the whole Asha’s experience. As a chef, I’ve travelled the world and few restaurants come close.”
Sunil is also quick to point out the importance of quality ingredients, “By locally sourcing fresh, organic meat, fish and vegetables wherever possible, we ensure that the quality of our food is of the highest order. Our signature spice blends add a touch of magic to the mix, bringing authentic regional flavours and accents to everything we serve.”
